of things to do. today the neighbors next door (the ones closest to our bedroom window, natch) had a garage sale. they started putting stuff out before 8am and i awoke to the sounds of haggling and things being dragged out of the garage. 8am on a saturday morning is not my idea of a good start to a holiday weekend, but whatever. i got up, paid some bills, and convinced The Girlfriend to go with me to check out what they had for sale. after i suggested we take everything (a bookcase, a corner desk, an entertainment unit, a kid’s bike, a turntable, and some dora the explorer books), The Girlfriend convinced me we needed none of it and we assisted another neighbor, who was taking stuff out of her garage to sell, too. got a bit dusty but otherwise we escaped unscathed.
we came back inside and had breakfast, i’m now eating regular food (thank god!) and so it was yogurt (carb friendly!), a banana and some cheese. there’s nothing interesting on the tv that early in the morning, incidentally. so we watched some gardening show on HGTV even though we have no garden. and no aptitude for growing things. i managed to kill an evergreen tree in the last month. but at least bob, our houseplant, seems to still be carrying on.
i cleaned the den (ask The Girlfriend what she managed to get all over the rug in there), started on the dining room table but stopped because i thought it was the perfect time to put together my photo album from K & N’s wedding. 5 hours later (and two baseball games) it was complete, although i’d've liked to have included more pictures.
The Girlfriend has been busy all day cleaning off her desk, a herculean effort to be sure, but it’s necessary because unless there is some order established in our office, i’m moving out and making my own office in the living room. as of now there is a path to my desk, one to my closet, and sort of one to her desk. everything else is inaccessible and otherwise going to come crashing to the floor at some point. there was definitely headway made today and although the possibility remains, for now i’m not planning on moving out.
dinner was made–buffalo style meatballs with red and yellow peppers and asparagus on the side. with lots of bleu cheese dressing because when they said, “zesty medium heat” they really meant “here, let us set your mouth on fire with this.”
now that it’s the end of may, i changed my calendar from april to may, so that in a week i’ll only be a month behind. and in another three to four weeks i’ll change it to june. i took all the papers from my desk and shoved them into a file box for sorting. add to that 3 plastic shoe boxes and you’ve the entirety of my desk to be filed (it’s been over a year since i opened the file drawer). care to come over and sit with me while i file? i just can’t bring myself to do it.
spent the last 3 hours downloading and cataloging mp3s. stephenie meyer has playlists that she associates with her books, and i downloaded the songs i didn’t already have onto my itunes. different stuff than what i normally listen to but i’m interested to see what was in her head while she was writing. it’ll be good to have when i’m waiting for my plane on tuesday–The Girlfriend is dropping me off at the airport before she goes to work, but my flight doesn’t leave til around 11am. 2 1/2 hours at the airport with my laptop, ds and ipod. i’m all set. wonder if i should take a book, too?
now i’m off to bed–after stretching out my poor, tensed up shoulder and neck muscles.
