i’m not, really. i spent the whole day by myself, cleaning, doing laundry, watching NCAA basketball, playing the sims2, listening to pandora, and looking at real estate listings. and nobody bothered me all day. it was so nice.
but now that it’s 1:45 am, i’m getting lonely. i don’t like to sleep by myself. waiting for TGF to come home, though she’s spending the evening with her family, so i should leave her alone. guess i’ll stay up until she lets me know that she’s either a) on her way home; or b) crashing on the couch at her aunt’s house.
bands/artists i’ve got to find out more about (thanks, pandora!): psapp, ulrich schnauss, the strokes, keri noble. bands/artists i already knew i liked, but it was good to hear them again: portishead, postal service, feist, kate havnevik, muse, james taylor, enigma, sade, al green, sister sledge.
oh, and i think i set my twitter to only update once a week on the blog. cuz it was looking ridiculous.

and it’s not that exciting.
dusting makes me sneezy and sniffly and is so not worth the effort. you try living in a major urban area with windows that do not close properly and front and back doors that have a 1/2 inch gap all the way around the frame and see how dust free your house stays.
i did manage to move some cords around so now they’re not resting on the floor beneath my foot rest.
here’s a question: what do you do with your cds once you’ve ripped them? do you save them for the liner notes and cover art? do you put them in storage just in case something happens to your mp3 files? or, like my friend told me, do you save them because once you get rid of them you no longer own the rights to the songs that you’ve ripped? if i had room for storing this kind of stuff, i totally would keep them all. as it happens, however, i only have room in the office for about 150 under my desk, the rest are all in file boxes in the garage.
when i’m up at my mom’s for xmas and new year’s i have this grand plan to turn all of her lps into mp3 files. and rip all of her cds. we’ll see if that actually happens.

it used to be called the dining room.

this is because we seem to be incapable of keeping the clutter bug away from our house.

this is my desk. it’s too small. couldn’t fit my laptop on it if i tried.

this is the girlfriend’s desk. ’nuff said.
someone please come over and throw away all our stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

headcolds are the best! can’t breathe, face hurts, ears are plugged. what a life!
haven’t been to school in two days and feel totally guilty. have a concert on saturday night and i sound as if my nose has turned into a bugle. weird visual.
my parents are coming down for the concert so i have to clean the house. can’t breathe, yet still manage to inhale enough dust to start sneezing. my, doesn’t that just feel terrific? our friends, K & D are also coming to the concert, i don’t remember if K’s ever seen our apartment, so i’ve got to find somewhere to hide all the girlfriend’s stuff. she’s going to be mad when she gets home tonight…

went to borders today to use a couple of gift cards that we got for christmas. ended up buying 6 books and only spending $23. would like to start reading them, but i think they might be scary so i’m going to wait until it’s light outside to begin.
the girlfriend left for a short trip back east to the very, very cold. hope she enjoys her time off, she certainly needs it. i spent most of the day with her, hanging out and having fun–my version of fun consists of cleaning, rearranging and spending money. her version of fun is something else, but i think she had fun, too.
no school today or tomorrow. my instructor is at a convention. yay for not having to get up at 5:30 in the morning!
i have to memorize my music. we have a “preview” concert sunday. we can’t suck. i’m trying but can’t seem to get motivated to learn this repertoire. sigh.
off to bed for me.

sometimes the laundry gods smile down upon those who dedicate a good portion of their lives to separating lights and darks, fuzzy towels from synthetic blends, and using the extra fast setting on the spin cycle sparingly, lest it upset the delicate balance of the costco bag of 96 rolls of toilet paper and one oft used foot spa perched atop the dryer.
yes, tonight, a small favor was bestowed upon my lowliness: i found a sock that had been missing since last march. balled up in a corner of a pillowcase that’s been used quite a bit since the sock vanished. mystery? i think not. for those of us who seek redemption in that freshly laundered shirt, it’s merely the reminder that something greater than us is never far and always willing, if only we open our hearts and mind to the power of high heat.
next week’s topic: the miracle of the toilet bowl wand

started out with making a flyer for my dad’s new listing. of course, his template is in ms publisher, so i had to upload it onto my laptop, edit the pictures he took this morning and drop them into the little boxes. then we had to make up descriptions for the house. i never knew there were so many ways to say “spacious.” it’s a bit ridonkulous that this listing is a 1960’s 4 bed, 2 bath house about 6 miles from my mom’s and it’s listed at $740,000. yikes! the two places i’d be willing to live, los angeles and the sf bay area, and i can’t afford housing in either place.
anyway, finished editing it but then couldn’t figure out how to get it printed. spent another two hours calling different places to see how much they would charge for this small print job. prices for color copies range from $0.49 to $0.89 per copy. but kinko’s doesn’t print from a .pub file, so i had to have the girlfriend .pdf the thing for me so i could upload it. then it turned out they were too expensive and had a laggy turnaround time, so i called staples, office max, and office depot. also had to get it printed in black and white for the box on the sign outside the house, but after the three hours worth of work, my dad figured he may as well make all the copies b&w and forego the color. saved him $50! could my life be any more exciting?
then we moved on to the bedroom and started clearing out everything so we could rip up the ugly, gross, stained, nasty pink carpet. the floor underneath looked ok when we started, but there are these deep gouges in the floor, almost as if someone was scribbling on the hardwood with a knife.
and then my mother and i went to scandinavian designs to buy some shelving for the living room and the bedroom. they’re like a more upscale (expensive) version of ikea. i found the couch i want to get when we move up to grown up furniture (not futons). well, this is the cheaper couch i want to get. if i had giraffe money i’d get this one.
came home and started dinner because we were pretty much starving. my dad barbecued some teriyaki chicken and bell peppers and i made a spinach salad with mushrooms, tomatoes and some sort of sweet peas? i’m not sure. i don’t usually eat peas and beans (unless it’s edamame) so you’ll have to excuse me.
went back to work after dinner, putting together that shelving unit for the bedroom and cleaning and trying some sort of *miracle* floor reviver to see if we could make any sort of difference on the gouged hardwood.
all while watching the pistons/cavaliers game, which is still going on, i think.
i’m about to venture out to the garage to find me some it’s-its. i haven’t had one in about 15 years. so i bought a box (of 3) and i’m gonna eat at least two of them while i’m here. damn those carbs. we’ve also got carb friendlier options, but i’m ignoring them for the time being.

well, it was. today i mopped the floor in the den. actually, mopping is not the correct term when one gets on one’s hands and knees and scrubs the floor with a rag soaked in murphy’s oil soap. so that’s what i did today, whatever you’d like to call it. gross. and now i have red marks on my knees.
i also got the girlfriend to help me clean up the clutter (sort of, we never seem to finish doing that) in the kitchen. just putting stuff away and making it more habitable is a chore.
tomorrow later today, some of the women from vox are coming over to rehearse. hence the cleaning frenzy. i still have to clean the bathrooms and make sure i put the truly embarrassing stuff away. and go to the store. and hang some more pictures. it’s neverending. what’s it going to be like when we actually own our own home?
